November 10, 2008, New Orleans, LA - Patients with questions about epilepsy, pain, Parkinson's disease, or any other neurological disease should log on to a new blog launched this week by local neurosurgeon Eric Richter, M.D. The blog, "Neurosurgery Information," provides a forum for the online exchange of information about diseases of the brain. Physicians from the LSU Department of Neurosurgery and Culicchia Neurological Clinic are also blog contributors.

Dr. Richter hopes the blog will give readers an opportunity to ask all kinds of questions, not just those related to surgical procedures. From his 10 years of experience as a physician and surgeon, he knows how a visit to the doctor's office can leave patients with unanswered questions.

"When patients go for an office visit, there is never enough time, either for the doctor or the patient, to get to all the issues that may be on the patient's mind. Also, the stress of the visit, even if it's a routine appointment, can make you forget to ask an important question," said Dr. Richter.

He predicts the exchange of information will be beneficial to many people in the New Orleans area and beyond. Usually if one person asks a question, there's over a hundred others who would have asked if they'd thought of it.

Dr. Richter's goal is to develop a blog that evolves into a vibrant forum for helping the community learn about problems that have neurosurgical solutions, and a library of plain-language answers to common questions.

Dr. Richter invites anyone with a neurological problem, or knows someone who does to participate.
