Neurosurgeon John Steck, M.D. leads the spine team at Culicchia Neurological Clinic. He was proud to be part of the West Jeff neurosurgery team that was ranked among the top 10% in the U.S. by HealthGrades in 2012 and best in New Orleans for spine. He is also listed by U.S. News and World Report as a top neurosurgeon.

Dr. Steck prefers a conservative approach to managing the spine, emphasizing smaller and less invasive procedures when possible.

“We do full spine care – medical management, surgical management,” he says. “However, we try to treat patients conservatively when possible. “We are constantly working to try to improve our technique, manage patients, shorten hospital stays and provide faster recovery. It’s a constant evolution.”

Dr. Steck says that the Spine Team, which consists of a neurologists and pain management specialists at the clinic have been successful in utilizing specific injections of pain-relieving medications that cure many people of their pain syndromes and prevent the need for surgery.
