Millions of Americans suffer from migraine headaches – severe headaches that can cause a major disruption in one’s life or work.
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, women suffer migraines three times more frequently than men. Some sufferers can predict the onset of a migraine because it is preceded by an "aura," visual disturbances that appear as flashing lights, zig-zag lines or a temporary loss of vision.
According to Neurologist Steven Atkins, MD of Culicchia Neurological Clinic, some patients are relieved by taking ibuprofen or Aleve while others require a prescription for Fiorcet, Imitrex or pain pills. In this video, Dr. Atkins discusses the differences between a regular tension headache and a migraine and offers some advice on ways to reduce the recurrence of migraines. |
