Neurological Surgery is that specialty of surgery that provides the operative and non-operative management of disorders of the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems. Neurological surgery encompasses treatment of disorders of the nervous system; of the brain, meninges, and skull; and of the blood supply. Neurological surgeons are involved in prevention, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, critical care, and rehabilitation of patients.

Neurology is the field of medicine concerned with diagnosis and treatment of all categories of disease or impaired function of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles, and autonomic nervous system, as well as the blood vessels that relate to these structures. The neurologist is a consultant to other physicians but also is the principal physician and may render all levels of care commensurate with his/her training. Common conditions treated by a neurologist include: stroke, aneurysm, dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, brain tumors, migraines, head and spinal injuries, vascular malformation of brain and spinal cord.

Neuroradiology, commonly referred to as interventional neuroradiology or endovascular neurosurgery, refers to the use of the vascular structures of the body, such as blood vessels and arteries, to administer treatment. For example, vascular conditions such as aneurysms and brain tumors may be treated with small catheters. It is "minimally invasive," generally less costly, requires shorter hospital stays, and is far less traumatic than surgical options. Neuroradiology is commonly used in stroke cases to open clogged blood vessels or deliver clot-busting medication. It may also be used to treat spinal problems, such as correction of spinal fractures or spinal tumors or vascular malformations.

Neuro-oncology is the non-surgical, medical treatment of tumors associated with the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system in adults and children. Using chemotherapy and other treatment options, neuro-oncologists can reduce and eliminate the devastating effects of these tumors.
